Jenna Taylor, LCPC, NCC
Mental Health Counselor
Jenna is currently not accepting new clients
Jennifer "Jenna" Taylor is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in the state of Maryland and a board-certified counselor (NCC), who has been in the field of mental health since 2002 and in private practice since 2009. She provides therapy to older adolescents and adults through individual, couples, family, and group sessions that will support the individual clients' goals of healing and/or growth. Jenna hails from New England and enjoys numerous hobbies with family and friends when time and energy allow.
Education and Counseling Philosophy
Jenna holds a bachelor's degree from Hood College and a master's of science degree in mental health counseling from Shippensburg University. She also has many hours of additional specialized training in treating acute and post traumatic stress disorders, pregnancy and postpartum depression and anxiety, grief and loss, and the many issues surrounding chronic or terminal illness for individuals and their families.
Jenna believes believes that it is often the therapeutic relationship, itself, that provides healing, and works to ensure a safe and comfortable space for the relationship to be established. Additionally, she believes in a wholistic approach in which every person is a unique individual and with a multitude of life factors that may affect how she or he experiences and thinks about life. Such factors may include family life, work, social environment, social support, past experiences, physical needs (rest, diet & nutrition, exercise or gentle stretching, etc.), spiritual beliefs, culture, and mental well-being. Jenna believes that no one knows her clients' situations better than they, themselves, do, and encourages her clients to be her collaborative partners throughout the counseling process. She offers a variety of therapeutic methods, including narrative therapy, expressive therapies, grief companioning, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dream work, and animal-assisted therapy, among others, to support the process of healing and growth of each individual client, as best suits that person's needs and goals.
Jenna has experience providing therapy for adolescents and adults in individual, family, and group sessions. Her experience includes: providing mental health and/or situational crisis stabilization as well as ongoing therapy; teaching skills for coping with trauma, anxiety and depression, managing stress, improving communication; assisting with the processes of grief and loss, and identity development; and providing information on healthy living.
In addition, Jenna has a somewhat unique therapeutic understanding of what it means to struggle with a serious chronic illness, allowing her to truly "get" what it means & be a companion in that journey to clients who are themselves or whose family members or close friends are walking that path.
